Hi, I am a Student, of Surrealism - by chance (another story) and the artistic principle of creativity. In my world painting and imagination have always been the "tools of my trade" therepeutically, art for your home and in my workshops (please see menu).
So what's the story? My professional background in education, therapy and working on large abstract art paintings for interior design art, appreciated and collected by a large following from Celebs. to Royals, has encouraged me to take a versatile approach from impasto squeegee abstract art to more contemplative art work in glazes and fine brush work.
We all have different yet valid ways of seeing - and a lot of the time life becomes a little too serious, daily clutter and monkey chatter clouding what is most valuable. Whoever said life has to be serious hey ? Below is my favourite quote by one of my top artists.
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist when we grow up".
— Pablo Picasso
I also like quirky - nothing stands still, watch this space ! if you like what you see sign up for my newsletter too, --- it's at the bottom of this page. Many Thanks, Al
In the run up to the 25th Wimbledon Art Fair, Allan catches up with Wimbledon Art Studios, discussing influences, inspirations and insight into upcoming work.
The traditional view of the art in St Ives tends to focus on its landscape and nature as a source of inspiration. Its sweeping light and battered windswept coast caressed with a sub-tropical climate in the summer months is a famous factor for having attracted artists.
To paint without reference is not easy because arbitrary choice and chance play an important part. When I begin painting I have no idea or plan as to what it will look like when finished.
Allan Storer MA paints large abstract canvases for architects, interior designers and private clients. His influences include 20th. Century abstract artists and the squeegee paintings of Gerhard Richter. He is a Master of Arts, Chelsea College of Art and Design: Bachelor of Arts, University Wales and a post graduate of Kings College.
Unlike many artist’s I’ve interviewed Allan Storer can see no difficulty where artistic integrity may be compromised with the gap between art and commerce. A painter in St Ives and London UK he has created his own unique style. He rocks! What inspires him?
He steps back, saying he needs to make it better whilst retaining the painting’s spontaneity. It looks good but Storer says,
“It won’t hold up, may be a day or two then I’ll see”
"The arts are fundamental" he says "enabling young people to express themselves, to achieve success in later life” and “there is a real risk that fewer and fewer schools will provide learning opportunities in the arts”.
Its monumental size, gives the observer an impression they are standing not just beside but below the turbulent wave, especially as the wave reaches to the frames borders.
