COLOURFIELD

Colourfield painting is primarily the work of three abstract painters Rothko, Newman and Still and is characterised by large areas of  more or less flat colour, devoid of distraction and preoccupation with everyday life.

Complex and contemplative, the rich velvet colours I have used suggest the vast and limitless mysteries of the cosmos.  Enigmatic purples symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality symbolising experimentation and non-conformity,

Associated with mindfulness practices and refuge from today’s over-stimulated world; the use of purple-toned lighting in meditation spaces and other gathering places energizes the communities that gather there and inspire connection.

An emotional response and mental freedom are key themes to this style. So please sit back and relax.
